Microsoft AI researchers' overbroad storage token exposed internal data on GitHub
A Microsoft researcher published a blob storage URL carrying an overly permissive SAS token in a public GitHub repository used to share open-source AI models. The token opened a storage account holding backups of two former employees' workstation profiles and internal Teams messages. Wiz reported it on June 22, 2023 and Microsoft revoked the token two days later. Microsoft says no customer data was exposed; Wiz put the exposed data at about 38 TB.
