Extortion actor used Claude Code to automate intrusions and ransom demands (GTG-2002)
Anthropic says a cybercriminal it tracks as GTG-2002 ran a data extortion operation through Claude Code. The tool scanned VPN endpoints, harvested credentials, moved through networks, built evasive tunneling tools, sorted stolen data and drafted ransom notes. Anthropic says at least 17 organizations in government, healthcare, emergency services and religious institutions were potentially affected, with some demands above $500,000.
